Real told to forget Ronaldo bid
MANCHESTER UNITED have rejected Real Madrid's hopes of buying Cristiano Ronaldo as “fantasy”.
The winger has excelled for the Premiership leaders this season and is wanted by Europe's top clubs.
Ronaldo declared he wanted to quit Old Trafford for Spain after last summer's World Cup, where he got United pal Wayne Rooney sent off in England's defeat to Portugal.
But he stayed at United and has scored 13 goals this season to help them to the top of the Premiership.
And United No2 Carlos Queiroz has dismissed Real's chances of signing Ronaldo, insisting he is close to agreeing a new bumper contract.
Ex-Real boss Queiroz said: “It is natural that the media talk about Cristiano Ronaldo with Real Madrid.
“He is a great player and Madrid are a great club, but it is just speculation. They are fantasises.
“The football that he is playing in Manchester is an example that he is happy here and he has his head at United. He has talent and is the best in the world.
“In addition to that, we are speaking with him about renewing his contract.
“The club have a clear policy. It is not necessary that a player has to finish his contract before we think about renewing it.
“Ryan Giggs has been with us for 14 years and he has renewed his contract many times.
“This club do not need the agents to recognise the work of the players.
“We anticipate things ourselves and that is what we are going to do with Cristiano.”
Queiroz also revealed an insight into the dedication Ronaldo has demonstrated this season.
He added: “He is always the first to arrive at training and the last to go.
“Many times when the session has finished, we shower, eat and then we look at the pitch and he is still training.
“He is a player who has a divine gift. He was born to be the best in the world.”

Ronnie rests before Prem run-in
CRISTIANO RONALDO will not play against Portsmouth today after being given an extended holiday.
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson let the in-form winger jet off to Dubai last week and wants to make sure his starlet does not burn out ahead of the title run-in.
And yesterday Fergie dismissed any chance of Portugal international Ronaldo, 21, joining Real Madrid.
He said: “We only sell the players we want to and we are not selling Ronaldo.
“He has developed so much as a player and a person since he has been here, we are not even thinking about selling him.”
And Old Trafford idol Eric Cantona also praised Ronaldo. He said: “He is a world-class player. He’s one of the family, the same as Wayne Rooney.”

He could still be £35m El Ron
CRISTIANO RONALDO’S agent insists he could still be heading for Spain this summer.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are ready to pay £35million for the Portuguese winger — even though Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson insists he is not for sale.
Ron’s agent Sergio Alves said: “When Real and Barca are involved the future is always open, not closed. Given a little bit of time the situation may change — let’s see.”
Fergie will be fuming at Alves’ comments because he has already banned Ronaldo, 21, from talking about a move.
Alves added: “There is not much we can do at the moment because United are making their position very clear.
"But you never know in these matters.”

'I fancy ALL Hollyoaks babes'
MAN UNITED star CRISTIANO RONALDO appears to be treating GEMMA ATKINSON like a Premiership defender.
The silky-skilled player has teased her one way then the other — and has now left her completely floundering.
SHE says they’re still together. HE has told team-mates things with the Hollyoaks babe are “casual”.
And he revealed he fancies all her sexy co-stars in the Chester-based telly soap.
The Portuguese winker was defending himself against dressing room ribbing about her night out with lothario LEE RYAN and ageing Miami Vice star DON JOHNSON.
Ron’s team-mates teased him because she’d been out with “that plonker from Blue”, a former Bizarre Shagger Of The Year contender.
Ron and Gemma have been “dating” since meeting at a charity ball hosted by the Old Trafford team before Christmas.
But since the pair’s knee-trembling antics were revealed they haven’t been spotted together once.
A source at Old Trafford told me: “Ronaldo insisted to team-mates he was a single man and things were casual with Gemma. He claimed he wasn’t settled on one Hollyoaks actress — he liked them all.”
Gemma has claimed she and Lee are working on a secret TV project.
Her manager insisted last night she and Ron were still together.
I reckon Ron’s telling Gemma one thing and the lads another.
But who might Ron fancy? My experts have lined up some pert possibilities.
West Ham striker Teddy can’t make up his mind about whether he is with Big Brother dimwit DANIELLE LLOYD or not.
Gemma rang Ron yesterday to get some reassurance about their fledgling relationship.
Of course, he said they are still together. She has blonde hair, big fake breasts and is, by all accounts, a very naughty woman.
I can’t think why a fame hungry actress would be worried about losing her millionaire football star boyfriend?

Ronaldo proud to be skipper
Cristiano Ronaldo was happy to captain Portugal against Brazil amid claims he is unsure over his club future.
The Manchester United winger skippered his country in Tuesday's 2-0 friendly win at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium at the behest of Carlos Silva - the Portuguese FA vice-president who died on Sunday.
But while it was a proud moment for Ronaldo, he was refusing to put too much stock on the result, with Portugal playing Belgium and Serbia in Euro 2008 qualifiers next month.
"It was good for me, but the responsibility is always the same one," Ronaldo told A Bola.
"Therefore my objective in the team is to always play well and to help with my best form.
"Beating Brazil gives us a lot of spirit, but there are two important games coming up and these are the ones that count, therefore this victory can only bring more motivation."
Meanwhile, Ronaldo has reportedly suggested he is keeping an open mind regarding his future at Old Trafford next season.
Barcelona are keen to capture the in-form attacker, while United want Ronaldo to sign a new contract with the Premiership leaders.
He told Spanish reporters: "At the moment I am only thinking about training well every day.
"I do not know what I am going to do or where I will be in the next six months.
"The only thing I am sure about is that I want to continue at the level I find myself and improve every day."
